Solid positioning and a keen understanding of team compositions will benefit you, even if you’re not commanding a premium vessel. Is it historically accurate? Not at all. However, like its predecessors "World of Tanks" and "World of Warplanes," "World of Warships" offers a thrilling experience. While the gameplay diverges significantly from those titles, it still carries that distinct Wargaming charm and spirit. It also brings with it a similarly restrictive player progression system. Thankfully, it’s still primarily a skill-based game. An inexperienced player with a deep wallet might climb the tiers faster than the average player, but they’ll continue to lose matches until they genuinely improve. When it comes to gameplay, "World of Warships" is fair — but it does seem to value the time of paying players differently from that of regular players. Whether that’s a good thing is up for debate.

A Diverse Arsenal
World of Warships offers a vast array of gadgets and weapons, from scout planes to emergency repair crews. The game features four ship types: destroyers, cruisers, carriers, and battleships, each with distinct handling characteristics. Some ships are slower and more powerful, while others come equipped with smoke screens and deadly torpedoes.
The most unique ship type is the aircraft carrier, which lacks traditional ship-to-ship guns. Carriers are controlled from an overhead view, similar to a real-time strategy (RTS) game, where players manage flights of torpedo planes and fighters. Playing a carrier feels like an RTS game welded onto a different genre, but the overhead view is somewhat lacking in the necessary information, forcing me to spend most of my time on the tactical map screen. While this can be monotonous, I found breaking up the routine by watching the action from the attacking warplanes’ perspective to be a refreshing change. Despite its passive nature, commanding torpedo attacks provided a welcome contrast to the artillery battles I had been engaged in for hours.
